National Audio Metrology Service for High-End Equipment

Measurements, diagnostics and documented reports for High-End audio equipment.

HIFI Vintage Service helps owners, collectors, dealers and industry professionals understand the real technical condition of valuable Hi-End or vintage audio equipment through independent measurements and documented technical reports. We do not perform repairs or modifications: our work is to measure, analyse and document.

The product is not “a repair”. It is documented technical certainty.

An important audio component deserves a measurable assessment: power output, noise, distortion, frequency response, channel balance, clipping behaviour and real operating conditions.

Services

Clear service packages for different technical needs.

Every activity begins with an assessment consistent with the value of the equipment and the purpose of the request. Full reports are normally appropriate for electronics whose technical and/or commercial value justifies an independent instrumental verification.

Initial Technical Diagnosis

Initial intake, preliminary instrumental verification, analysis of the reported issue and evaluation of the possible next steps.

Measurement Report

Documented measurements with graphs, instrumental values and technical commentary: useful for evaluation, sale, purchase or periodic technical checks.

Pre/Post Service Verification

Measured comparison before and after a technical intervention, to document improvements, residual limits and the final condition of the equipment.

Testing for Professional Operators

Technical verification of valuable used units, demo equipment, trade-ins, returns, prototypes or equipment intended for professional resale.

on quotation

Selective Restoration

Targeted interventions on equipment where the technical diagnosis and the value of the unit make the operation sensible and documentable.

only after diagnosis

Extended Spectral Analysis

Advanced verification, search for spurious components, out-of-band checks and analysis beyond the traditional audio band.

Documented Reports

A useful measurement must be readable, understandable and attachable.

A report is not a sheet of numbers: it is a technical document that summarises the real condition of the equipment, highlights any limitations and makes a sale, purchase or restoration decision more transparent. It is designed especially for equipment whose value makes independent instrumental documentation meaningful.

Measurements typically included

  • RMS power into non-inductive load
  • THD / THD+N at selected levels
  • Frequency response
  • Residual noise and S/N ratio
  • Channel balance
  • Clipping behaviour
  • Technical notes and interpretation of results

HIFIVS Comparative Report

Instrumental comparison with manufacturer specifications.

When available, laboratory measurements can be compared with the technical data declared by the manufacturer: power output, distortion, frequency response, signal-to-noise ratio, channel separation and other significant parameters.

The result is a final document that is easier to read and useful for sale, purchase, technical evaluation or verification of the real condition of valuable High-End or vintage equipment.

Request a comparative report

Example of comparison

Parameter Manufacturer Measured Result
RMS Power 8 Ω 100 W/ch 104 W/ch Compliant
Nominal THD ≤ 0.05% 0.018% Compliant
Frequency Response 20 Hz–20 kHz ±1 dB ±0.35 dB Compliant

The comparison is valid under the measurement conditions specified in the report. When original data are not available or cannot be fully replicated, the comparison has technical-documentary value.

For Hi-Fi Dealers and Professional Operators

An important component sells better when it is documented.

For dealers, distributors and industry professionals, HIFI Vintage Service can produce independent instrumental reports for valuable used equipment, demo units, ex-display products, returns or trade-ins.

The objective is simple: increase buyer confidence, support the commercial description of the equipment and reduce post-sale disputes.

Confidential B2B Dealer Documentation

Dedicated proposal for dealers and professional operators.

A dedicated B2B proposal is available for dealers, distributors and professional operators interested in using HIFI Vintage Service reports for used equipment, demo units, trade-ins and High-End units intended for resale.

The PDF is protected by an opening code. The code is provided upon request, subject to verification of the operator’s professional profile.

When it is useful

High-End used equipment intended for sale Demo or ex-display units Valuable trade-ins to be resold Independent verification of technical returns Documentation attachable to a commercial negotiation

Pre-Purchase Verification

Before buying a valuable amplifier, preamplifier, DAC, source component or power amplifier, an independent instrumental verification can prevent costly surprises.

  • Technical check before purchase
  • Verification of used vintage or High-End equipment
  • Measurements useful for negotiation and evaluation
  • Documented report for more informed decisions

For Private Owners and Collectors

Before spending thousands of euros, it is better to measure.

The phrase “perfectly working” is useful, but it is not enough. An independent technical verification can clarify the real condition of the equipment and distinguish normal ageing from existing technical issues.

Acceptance Criteria

The laboratory is selective, not generalist.

The activity is dedicated to equipment whose technical, historical or commercial value justifies a serious procedure of diagnosis, measurement and documentation.

Requests normally compatible

  • Quality amplifiers, preamplifiers, DACs, players and source components
  • Important vintage or recent High-End equipment
  • Measurements, reports, diagnostics or documented testing
  • Pre-sale, pre-purchase or post-service evaluations

Requests normally not compatible

  • Low-value consumer equipment
  • Requests focused only on the lowest possible price
  • Quick attempts without technical diagnosis
  • Units whose value is lower than the cost of a serious procedure

Working Method

Measure to understand, document and decide.

01

Request Selection

The first communication is used to understand whether the equipment, objective and value fall within the laboratory’s operating scope.

02

Initial Diagnosis

Every proposal for technical work starts from an initial technical diagnosis of the equipment, not from a generic remote estimate.

03

Measurements and Analysis

Decisions are based on instrumental verification, technical observations and comparison with the expected behaviour of the unit.

04

Service or Report

Work proceeds only when the activity makes technical, economic and documentary sense for the owner or professional operator.

Professional Measurement Setup

The instruments serve the technical decision.

The laboratory operates with a measurement chain dedicated to the instrumental analysis of quality audio equipment, including conventional audio measurements, FFT, load testing and extended spectral analysis.

The goal is not to impress with a list of instruments: it is to produce reliable, interpretable and useful data to decide whether to buy, sell, restore or stop.

FAQ

Questions worth answering immediately.

Do you provide free estimates?

No. Any proposal for technical work is subject to an initial technical diagnosis of the equipment (€120 + VAT), deductible if the assignment is confirmed.

Do you work on any audio equipment?

No. The laboratory operates on a selective basis and gives priority to quality equipment, units of technical or commercial interest, and requests compatible with a serious instrumental procedure.

Can the report be used for a sale?

Yes. The report is also designed to document the technical condition of used equipment, demo units, trade-ins or valuable units intended for sale.

Do you always restore the equipment you receive?

No. Any intervention is considered only after establishing, through technical diagnosis and measurements, that the operation makes real sense.

Can I request only a pre-purchase verification?

Yes, if the equipment has adequate technical or commercial value and the logistics allow a serious verification before purchase.

Preliminary Assessment Request

Describe the equipment, not only the fault.

For an initial selection, please indicate brand, model, type of equipment, reported issue or purpose of the verification, any previous technical work, approximate value of the unit and delivery or shipping arrangements.

The initial request does not constitute an estimate. Any proposal will be issued only following an initial technical diagnosis of the equipment.
